Welcome to my public thoughts on my personal life goals. In 2014, I set out to change my lifestyle, and I began with the best way I knew how - my closet. I share with you, how the road to Perfecting My Closet, is helping me achieve my ultimate life goals.

A little late, but better late than never!

After months of continual wardrobe refinement, I'm getting to a point where my wardrobe is evolving to achieve my goal of a color capsule with more ease. I started purging last year and with the goal to own less, but through that process, I realized that owning less still wasn't helping me feel more put together or relieving any chaos when trying to get dressed. So, I learned that a color capsule is a better solution for me. Color focused AND owning less.

I didn't just purge everything that wasn't in my chosen colors but if they ended up getting let go because they didn't fit or was getting worn out, I didn't look immediately to replace it (thus reducing numbers), and when I was purchasing items, I consciously chose colors in my capsule (which controlled how much I brought in because I had a focus. Not to mention, it didn't make me feel like I was missing out on not buying something because I am following 'guidelines' of what I want to own).

Right now I still have more than I would like to own, regardless of color, but I'm currently just enjoying each item and seeing what other items in my closet can take their place when their time is up.

I'm still within my yearly budget but I have less than a quarter's worth left; I've been able to let go of shoes (and only brought in one this year which are rain boots that are necessary for where I live. Yes, technically I brought in 2 but had to return one because of damage); I've been able to let go of bags but I did bring in two SLGs and a crossbody; and so far have 2 no-purchase months. I think I'm doing pretty well this year despite most of my budget being gone.

Things that are helping me are:

  • Not replacing items when I let them go and seeing what else works in my wardrobe
  • Sticking within my color capsule when making purchases
  • Deciding that I mostly want to wear white tops - this decision is both frustrating and amazing. Frustrating because it's difficult to find great white tops that fit well, aren't sheer, and have some pizzazz, and amazing because it is making me be really aware of my purchases
  • Not buying something because it's on sale, even if it is in 'my color'. I am making sure that items really fulfill all the things I want before I bring them.
Perfect is truly worth waiting for - got my belt!!!
