There are a lot of pieces that have been in my closet for well over 5+ years - sometimes I don't even realize how much time has passed.
Since I started tracking in 2014 what has been coming in and out of my closet (aside from my initial purge), it's been interesting to see how much wear I get out of something before I let it go, and for what reason.
In 2014, I brought in 36 pieces and as of today, 9 items have been let go - most recently two cardigans and a pair of jeans that got worn out; 3 other items were also worn out, 1 was ruined by bleach, and 2 I would claim to be mistakes. That's 25% of my purchases gone over an average of 3.5 years, give or take when they came in and left, and 5.5% being mistakes.
In 2015, I brought in 52 pieces (!!!) and as of today, 5 have gone - 1 item was thoroughly worn out and the other 4 I would say were also worn out, but more so because of the lack of quality. In that sense, those 4 items, I would deem mistakes on a quality level. That's 9.6% of items gone, and 7.6% due to buying poor quality.
2016 appears to be the winning year - out of 47 items I brought in, only 1 item has left due to wear. Clearly i'm getting better over the years in picking out items that work for me, and with better quality control =)
