Revealing my pre-loved Speedy 30!!!
I cannot begin to tell you how absolutely thrilled I am right now. This is going to be a long post.
As you know, I had been debating the purchase of an LV Speedy 30 for a number of years. So many years, that I think there have been at least 7 price increases to-date. Several years ago, I even tried to hunt down and purchase a pre-loved one but I still couldn't justify spending that amount on a bag that my mom already had.
To solve this dilemma, I decided I would purchase a pre-loved Speedy 35 or 40 - essentially the same bag, but different enough for me to justify the purchase, and a lot less expensive than a new 30, and if lucky, even a pre-loved 30.
I came across a 35 last year that was put on hold for someone but the sales associate told me that they hadn't picked it up and the hold was going to expire. I walked away from it because I didn't want to compromise on my 2015 goal of not purchasing a single bag or wallet. I got home and was still thinking about and eventually called the SA to let him know I would be buying it. I called, and the original buyer had come and picked it up. I was mixed with sadness and immense relief.
Losing that bag set me up for one of my 2016 wardrobe goals -
It was also part of my 2016 wishlist, which meant that the purchase sits outside of any 'do not' buy lists I have. Now, it may not be the 35/40 I originally intended to purchase, but the 30 was the original size I had wanted, so I consider this a pretty big win.
I found the perfect pre-loved 30 for me as I was posting items on Craigslist. I have never purchased anything off Craigslist or Ebay for fear of authenticty but something compelled me to message the seller. The seller was incredibly kind and patient and answered all my questions and sent extra photos. I was beside myself with excitement - this was an amazing deal, and looked too good to be true. In my gut, I felt this was the real thing, but I couldn't believe the deal I came across. I had some experts check it out and got the go ahead that this seemed to be an authentic Louis Vuitton piece. I went and saw it in real life and it came home with me! =D
Here's the amazing thing - I fully funded this purchase by selling things I didn't use any more. I sold 2 pairs of Doc Martens, a Coach bag, and a Dooney & Bourke keyfob. The sale of the keyfob happened 3 days before I was going to see the bag in real life, and it was the exact amount I was missing. Talk about luck!
Even more amazing, this bag cost me $100!!!!! It is exactly the mix of pre-loved condition and price I have been searching for. It has exceeded my expectations beyond anything I thought I would ever find. Although it's missing its zipper pull, lock tab, and lock and key, (all of which can be easily replaced) the condition of its construction is amazing. This bag is from 1997 and the interior vachetta is in great condition with minimal darkening, and the interior is so clean. I have seen bags just a couple of years old with a lot of grossness - this bag's interior is like how I maintain my bags (which is ocd kind of clean). The stitching, incredible - not a stitch out of place or loose. The handles and piping are worn but for a bag that age, I'm not really complaining - if I really want to, the handles can be replaced but since the stitching is intact, I'm not going to mess with it.
I finally have my dream bag and the best thing about it is that it suits my needs perfectly as a pre-loved bag. I don't have to worry about damaging a $1,300 bag, I don't have to baby it like I do with my other bags, I love its vintage nature (I've always felt the Speedy is a bag that looks better over time), and I can really use this bag to its fullest.
