Final wardrobe count for 2016
We're not quite finished the year yet, but with only 4 days left, I think it's safe to say I won't get the chance to add anything else.
For December, I added 2 rings in from Swarovski (Christmas gift to myself - doesn't count against my budget), and a pair of black ankle boots! Can't believe I was able to cross that off the list before the new year - it was a Boxing Day purchase and a great deal, AND doesn't count towards my wardrobe budget because my parents are reimbursing me since they didn't have time to shop for a gift for me this year. For my outs, I sold a bucket hat from the GAP, and am letting go of a Ralph Lauren scarf and a sleeveless top from Banana Republic - 3 in and 3 out!
My final tally of my core wardrobe is 287 and looks like this (not including accessories such as belts, earrings, necklaces, etc):
Active wear: 19 (includes one pair of runners)
This year, I also added two new categories: (1) Let Go; and (2) Getting Worn Out.
"Let Go" - I basically move anything and everything in there if I have even a slight feeling that I want it gone, for any reason whatsoever. I then sit on it for a while and see if I use it, or further decide. Right now, I have 32 items in there.
"Getting Worn Out" - pretty self explanatory. These items are getting worn out and I've demoted them to rough wear (the days where things might get a bit dirty). Depending on the item, and the cost/effort to get them up to par again, these may end up back in my main wardrobe count.
How does this compare to the start of the year? (I originally had a total of 363 pieces)
Active wear: 22 (includes one pair of runners)
I was able to reduce my entire core wardrobe by approximately 20% (76 pieces in total). Knowing the amount and percent I was able to reduce is an eye-opener - I'm actually surprised that the number is so high! It's a good benchmark for next year and since I already have 41 items in my Let Go, and Worn Out piles, I'm pretty much half way there to reducing it by another 20%+. That's exciting data!
