Hello

Welcome to my public thoughts on my personal life goals. In 2014, I set out to change my lifestyle, and I began with the best way I knew how - my closet. I share with you, how the road to Perfecting My Closet, is helping me achieve my ultimate life goals.

My Q4 strategy

My Q4 strategy

As you know, I don't have anything left of my budget to spend for the year so this last quarter is going to be interesting. To tackle the next three months, I'm taking it as a blessing in disguise and came up with a game plan to set me up properly for next year, and continue to keep me focused on my other wardrobe goals.

To start, I added 2 new categories in my Stylebook App - (1) Getting worn out, and (2) Thinking Items - Keep and Let go

(1) Getting worn out - This category is to avoid any type of thinking. It's not meant for me to decide whether I like something or not, can't fit in it or not, wear it enough or not - nothing. It's the simple fact that it's getting worn out. I went through my entire closet and just moved items over. Then, I take my time and decide whether each item is something I consider a wardrobe staple and worth replacing, or whether something else I currently own can be substituted in its place. Isolating these items help me focus on their individual 'stats', and switch/replace them in my outfits to see if something else might work. Similar to not knowing you need something until you have it, sometimes you don't know you don't need something until it's not there. If I can't make do with an item, i.e. black dress pants, then I make a note as an item to look out for.

(2) Thinking items - I spent one night going through every item in my closet and if I had even a split second where I thought I didn't want it anymore (for whatever reason), I moved it into this category. Right now, I'm just waiting to see what happens. There were items that I thought I really liked but for some reason, my first instinct was to 'let go'.  Sometimes you don't know you use something a lot until you reach for it, or sometime you might reach for something a lot but don't know that you don't really want it. I do break it down into 2 sub-categories because sometimes I change my mind on an item but I do know that if my instinct was to 'let go', I don't want to return it to its place until I'm sure.

Since doing this, I've managed to let go of several more items and so far they aren't items I need to replace, which lowers my numbers, hurray! I think I will be using these categories a few times a year to really clean house.
